Policy Provisions

1. Course Outline and Syllabi

Each faculty member is responsible for designing and sharing with students in each course at the first class meeting a clear, concise, and carefully defined plan for learning. Each syllabus must meet the requirements of the guidelines provided by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. An effective plan contains a clear and measurable statement of learning objectives for the students in the course, a rationale for learning the content of the course and achieving the course objectives, and a statement of the means and procedures used to measure the student’s progress toward the objectives of the course.
An acceptable plan also includes assignment and exam schedules, attendance policy, professor’s policies, grading system, schedule of office hours, project assignments and instructions, and helpful suggestions for more effective learning.
Each syllabus should be revised periodically and kept current. These should be made available by the first class meeting, and a copy should be filed with the School Dean’s office and will be forwarded to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

2. Cell Phone Use and Syllabi
Course instructors establish their own cell phone (and other electronic equipment) policies and consequences for any breech of policy. These policies can be found in the course syllabi. Students are responsible for abiding by the electronic equipment policies as outlined.
