HIS 315 Britain and the Modern World

This course traces the evolution of the British Empire from its origins in eastern trade rivalriesand North American settlement to its post-WWII decline and Commonwealth expansion. The core themes of this course are: colonialism and capitalism; colonial society, cultures of rule and resistance; empire and British identity; forms of imperial administration and policy; ideologies of empire and nation and the intertwining of imperialism and mass politics. Fulfills writing-intensive requirement.
