HIS 320 US Gilded Age & Progress Era

This course explores the volatile decades in which Americans sought to deal with the extraordinary challenges presented by the industrial transformation of the late 19th century. Topics include labor and class conflict; the political mobilization of farmers and workers; emergence of the Jim Crow 'New South;' urbanization and immigration; and the aims and outcomes of Progressive Era reform. Fulfills diversity requirement. Prerequisite: HIS 227 or permission of instructor.
