HIS 370 The Great Migration

Students will study the transformation of African American communities from their predominantly southern and rural origins to the emergence of modern urban and suburban black America. The course will examine the impact federal policy and hiring practices had on African American stability while exploring movements for economic justice that tried to counter the downward mobility which characterized the Second Gilded Age (1980-2000). Open to majors and non-majors. Fulfills U.S. geographic requirement and L13 Further Disciplinary Study. Fulfills writing-intensive and diversity requirement.
