This course introduces East Asian Civilizations from Neolithic times through the 18th century, focusing on China and Japan. It will present historical overviews of the major developments in state formation, court politics, and intellectual movements, but emphasis will be placed on the social and cultural aspects of the civilizations, examining continuities, as well as changes through time.
