MAT 430 Introduction to Topology

Topology is the study of continuity and connectivity. Topology studies properties that are preserved through deformations, twisting, and stretching of objects. Tearing, however, is not allowed. A circle is topologically equivalent to an ellipse while a donut and a coffee cup with a handle are equivalent shapes, because each has a single hole. Prerequisites: MAT 191, MAT 240. Abstract Algebra or equivalent is highly recommended.
