CJS 420 Internat'l Crim Law & Proced

This course discusses the history, development, purpose and limitations of international criminal law (ICL) as a distinct subset of general international law (IL) . The procedures and institutions, past and present, designed for the international enforcement of ICL together with issues dealing with the domestic enforcement of domestic law internationally and enforcement of international law domestically are also examined. The substantive law of ICL is covered through the exploration of ?core ?international crimes of aggression (crimes against peace) , torture, terrorism, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Course instruction relies on the reading of actual domestic and international law court case decisions as well as other explanatory materials together with readings relating to international current events bearing on the topics covered. Prerequisite: CJS 110. Spring 2018
