HIS 280 Special Topics

Topics in Global History since 1950: This course focuses on the economic and cultural integration of the globe since the end of the Second World War.The period is characterized by rapid technological advances:nuclear weapons, satellites, computers, television, bioengineering; and the World is now a 'global village.'The overarching themes of this course include the rising public alarm about the destruction of the environment and the call for universal respect for basic human rights in all human communities.We will examine rival (capitalist & socialist) models that developed during the Cold War for establishing a world order, the social impact of the world market, and the growing interdependence of the global community with particular reference to human rights, labor migration and ecology.
