HIS 218 Early Modern Britain 1500-1815

This course surveys British history from early times to the 'Glorious Revolution' of the late 17th century. Topics include an examination of the growth of the state and the evolution of common law; the development of a common British literary, artistic, and musical culture; the origins of empire; the development of capitalism; political tensions between crown and country; the emergence of democratic political institutions; religion and revolution.
