1. Facility Services--Baird Chapel

Located on the west end of the first floor of Memorial Hall, this former gymnasium was renovated in the 1930s by Walter Jackson Baird in memory of his wife, Ethel Bouton Baird. Baird Chapel features an elegant Art Nouveau ceiling, portraits of individuals important to Cumberland University history, the mechanicals for the Cooksey Carillon, and a beautiful stained-glass window depicting the symbol of the Phoenix. In 1999, Baird Chapel underwent extensive restoration made possible by grants from the Tennessee Historical Commission and the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Foundation. Baird Chapel has a seating capacity of two hundred (200) and has been used as a banquet hall for conferences, wedding receptions, the site of weddings and as a University and community assembly and lecture hall.

A signed facility agreement and a non-refundable deposit of 50% is required to guarantee a reservation. Balance and applicable sales tax is due seven (7) days prior to the scheduled event. The use of alcohol requires written permission from the University. A Request for Alcohol Form must be completed, approved and a fee of $200.00 will be charged. Cumberland University will supply Security for the event.

As of January 2011, catering will be exclusive with Chartwells— Compass Catering, our food provider on campus.

All decorating plans must be submitted for approval to the Associate Vice President for Strategic Affairs.

2. Facility Rental Guidelines

1. No smoking is allowed in any of the buildings on campus.
2. Keep all exits clear and unobstructed.
3. Do not move any furniture from other areas of the University.
4. All equipment brought onto the campus must have non marking tires.
5. Duct tape and temporary adhesives are not permitted on floors/walls/railings etc. unless approved in advance.
6. Do not attempt to hang anything on the walls in Baird Chapel. This is a historic building. The walls are made of plaster. A damage fee will be assessed for any damage to the facility.
7. Fog machines are not allowed in University facilities. Lessee is responsible for any fees assessed resulting from the triggering of smoke alarms due to smoke machines.
8. Helium balloons are not allowed in Baird Chapel.
9. No glitter or confetti is permitted in Baird Chapel. Birdseed and rose petals are allowed outside of the building.
10. Drip trays must be provided for all candles.

12. Alcohol may not be served without the permission of the University. A request for Alcohol form must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the event. A $200.00 security fee will be charged and the University will place a Security guard at the event. Alcohol may not be served to anyone under the age of 21.
13. All trash and garbage must be bagged, removed from the building and placed in the dumpster behind the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center.
14. All events must conclude prior to midnight, this includes breakdown and clean-up.
