1. Overview of University Organization

The statutory responsibility for the broad mission, vision and policy of the University is vested in the Board of Trust. The Board appoints to a single person the responsibilities of President and Chief Executive Officer. The President is responsible for the fiscal and academic affairs of the institution as well as the daily operation. Assisting the President/CEO is a team of five offices, usually holding the title Vice President or director. They manage all activities within their organizations. The areas of responsibility include but are not limited to or by this or any particular combination of academic affairs, student affairs, fiscal affairs, human resources, building and grounds, development, and athletics.

The Faculty Senate, as well as university committees, participate with governance by assessing, revising and carrying out current policies, and researching and recommending new policies.

The students of Cumberland University have a unique opportunity to play a role in university governance through Student Government, student appointments to committees, focus forums, and opinion surveys which all steer the direction of university operation.
