MAT 340 Linear Programing/Game Theory

This course presents students with fundamental theoretical concepts and mathematical techniques required for solving linear optimization problems that arise in social, political, managerial, economics, and physical and life sciences. The course also provides students with the ideas and basic concepts behind game theory techniques for making strategic decision. Topics covered include formulations of linear programming model for a given problem, simplex method, duality theory, sensitivity analysis, static games, Nash equilibrium, and mixed strategies. Use of computer software (such as Excel Solver) for solving linear programs may also be introduced. Applications are provided when available.Upon completion of this course, students should be able to develop an understanding of: (1) the techniques to solve linear programming problems; and (2) the importance of the game theory concepts to study competitive and cooperative factors in a variety of decision problems. Prerequisite: MAT 240 or permission of the instructor.
