BIO 351 Cell Biology

An in depth examination of the plasma membrane, cytoplasmic organelles, and nuclear structure of eukaryotic cells at the molecular level with an emphasis on the historical and experimental basis for understanding cellular structures, functions, and processes. Students will: (1) Gain an understanding of the complexities of eukaryotic cells that will be a basis for further studies in other upper level classes and in graduate school; (2) Discuss the research techniques of cell biologists; (3) Use the primary research literature of cell biologists; (4) Discuss topics and issues related to cell biology, including the role of cell biology in modern society and ethical issues related to research/discoveries; and (5) Present scientific ideas related to cell biology in an informal setting. BIO 351L Laboratory required. Prerequisite: CHM 202 or BIO 280. Fall
