1. Commitment to Students with Disabilities

Cumberland University is committed to meeting the needs of students with documented disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Under the administrative oversight of the Executive Vice President, the Director of Counseling/Disability Services currently coordinates and ensures students with disabilities are served through the Counseling/Disability Services Office. The Director of Counseling/Disability Services is assisted by faculty members, staff members and Academic Affairs Office personnel as well as the Student Disability Services Committee in ensuring that all individuals with disabilities are accommodated.

The mission of the Counseling/Disability Services Office is to provide eligible students with documented disabilities equal access to Cumberland University academic and physical environments through reasonable accommodations.

1. Academic Assistance: Services offered, based on individual need, include alternative testing formats, tutors, audio texts, assistive technology, and library assistance. Documentation of disability is required before services may be rendered.
2. Learning Disabilities: Students with a previously diagnosed learning disability should submit a recent high school evaluation and transition plan to the Director of Counseling/Disability Services. Students diagnosed after high school must submit a psycho-educational evaluation or an appropriate equivalent completed by a licensed psychologist or medical examiner to the Director of Counseling/Disability Services before requesting services.
3. Campus Orientation and Accessibility: The Director of Counseling/Disability Services will assist all students in complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
4. Reasonable Accommodations: The Director of Counseling/Disability Services will assist all students in complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
