SPY 510 Academic Interventions

The primary area of focus is on the assessment of academic problems with special emphasis on the collection of data that allow the planning of interventions at all levels of learning. Students will learn direct methods of academic assessment for both performance and skill deficits. Emphasis will be on the integration of these assessment techniques, collaborative problem solving, systematic observation, the principles of the psychology of learning for the purpose of intervention development. A full and comprehensive review regarding the issues surrounding the implementation of Rtl/MTSS policies and procedures will provide the realistic context in the provision of effective instruction for all children at all levels. Integrated throughout the course will be developing a working knowledge of brain structures and functions that impact learning. By bridging neuropsychological and educational principles school psychologists can better address and enhance interventions that are used to facilitate academic progress within the school systems.
