EPY 604 Educ Psych for Tchg Prof

This course is designed for the practicing teacher, administrator, school counselor/social worker, or advanced graduate student. The course will review psychological concepts and principles relevant to the educational context. The central focus will include practical applications of these principles to the classroom for the practicing teacher. The class will focus on child and adolescent development and the contexts of development (ie: home, school, peers, culture). This course will also study the various aspects of the instructional setting including individual, group, and cultural differences: learning and instructional theories; motivation; assessment and evaluation; and classroom management. Additional attention will also center around methods of differentiated instruction, reflective teaching, research-based practices, and other topics of interest of class members. This course is designed to help the professional educator think critically about these concepts and theories and to help you to become a more careful and thoughtful consumer of information and research in educational psychology in your role as teacher, administrator, parent or policy maker.
