EPY 602 Devel Psych for Educat Prof

This course is designed for the practicing teacher, administrator, school counselor/social worker, or advanced graduate student. The central focus will include practical applications of these principles to the classroom/educational setting. The course will review psychological concepts and principles and current research regarding human growth and development across the life span with special attention to development in childhood and adolescence. The class will focus on child and adolescent development and the contexts of development (ie: home, school, peers, culture), with particular attention on development in the educational context. This course will review major theories and current research in the various domains of development including: physical, cognitive, and social and emotional development. Additional attention will also center around specific topics of interest of class members. This course is designed to help the professional educator think critically about developmental issues and to help you to become a more careful and thoughtful consumer of information and research on child development in your role as teacher, administrator, parent or policy maker.(1 credit)
