EDU 546 Service Lrng P-12 Clsrm

This course is designed for students who are interested in implementing service learning into their P-12 classrooms. The course will address current research in service learning to help students define sevice learning and differentiate it from community service. Students will examin societal factors that influence pupil performance and develop integrated curriculum that ties service learning and core academic curricula. Emphasis will be placed on the benefits of active engagement in communities for both the teacher and the pupil. Reflective practice for educators and students will also be required. Students will engage in a service learning project with a group of pupils in an urban setting as a major component of this class. Additional time outside of class is required. (3 credits)
