1. Wait List

In the event that Cumberland University has assigned the allotment of spaces by gender and academic standing, the University will implement a waitlist for the affected areas of residential spaces. When spaces become available, they will only be made available to students meeting the criteria for that floor or building. Consideration for available spaces is determined by the date application and fees were received as well as the location of the space by gender and academic standing (upperclass/freshman).
In years past, Cumberland University has been very successful in accommodating the majority of our students. The movement of our waiting lists is dependent on pre-assigned students and we will assign new students as spaces become available.

Please note that our waitlist may also take distance from campus into consideration. Students who live outside a 30-mile radius may be prioritized. We may ask students on the waitlist who live closer to make travel/commute arrangements temporarily before we offer on campus housing.

1.1 New Students

New students are assigned residential space and positioned on the waitlist on a first come, first paid basis. Students who complete their Residence Life Application, pay their residence life fees with the Business Office, and sign their occupancy agreement will receive priority with assignments and position on the waitlist.

1.2 Returning Students

Previous residential students who did not go through the Lottery Process & Room Selection or students who have withdrawn from their housing assignment and wish to return to on-campus residential space will be placed on a waiting list for available spaces. Placement on the waiting list will be determined by the date the Office of Residence Life is notified of the desire to return to residential spaces and the date fees are paid in the Business Office (if applicable).

Returning students on the waitlist will not be assigned to first-year residence halls until all first-year students have been accommodated, possibly as late as 16-20 days into the semester.

2. New Student Waitlist Conversion – Converted Triple Rooms

In mid-August and no less than one week before the start of classes, in order to honor the University’s first-year residence life requirement and decrease the waitlist, Cumberland University may assign some incoming students to reside in a converted triple room (traditional double rooms with added furniture to accommodate three students).

Incoming students are assigned to converted triple rooms in reverse date of Residence Life Application, Residential Fees, and occupancy agreement received order, beginning with the latest dates of deposit and working backwards. Residence Life will work with students in converted triple rooms to move the latest person to apply and pay fees to another location once space becomes available.

Converted Triple Rooms are not done for profit. Cumberland University uses tripling with great discretion to accommodate the high demand to live on campus and provide a cost-savings to budget strapped parents and students. This process guarantees students are living on-campus with 24-hour Security, active Residence Life Staff monitoring, and an environment conducive to learning.
