MU 280 Introduction to Music Education

An introduction to music education as a profession, including the history of music education in the public schools and an overview of the major philosophies that have shaped current trends in music instruction. Demonstration and discussion of the relevant approaches to the teaching of choral, general, and instrumental music at all levels. Students will explore fundamental issues in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. This course is a prerequisite to further study in music education.
