2016-2017 Graduate Studies

Elementary Education

The Master of Arts in Teaching – Elementary Education program is designed for individuals interested in becoming candidates for a Tennessee Elementary Education (K-6) Teaching License. The program mixes online and on-campus course formats and includes a semester of student teaching. Please see the official website or contact an advisor for a description of courses and their delivery formats.

Students in this program must pass the Praxis Elementary Education: Content Knowledge Test before they are considered candidates for licensure and permitted to student teach. Candidates should take this test during the first six months in the program. If a candidate cannot pass the Content Knowledge exam, they may elect to defer course taking in this program of study until such time as they pass the Praxis test, or transfer to the Master of Arts in Education program, which will allow them to complete a Master's degree without licensure.

For initial license candidates, the program is 36 semester hours including the student teaching semester and seminar.
