2015-2016 Undergraduate Catalog

Art and Design, Studio Art Emphasis with Art Education Teacher Licensure (K-12)

Candidates seeking a license to teach Visual Art in grades K-12 must complete the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and Design, emphasis in Studio Art with optional Art Education Teacher Licensure. Art Education is a K-12 teaching license, offering a wide range of teaching experience.

The full program of study can be found under the Educator Preparation Programs Section of the Catalog.

Candidates for Art teacher licensure should work with an Art advisor and an Education advisor to ensure appropriate course selection. Please review courses of study carefully and work with advisors early and often to plan course selection. Candidates have few or no elective courses available, so advisor consultation in both areas is especially important. The School of Humanities, Education, & the Arts has specific GEC and grade requirements.

Cumberland University students who wish to become teacher candidates must see a Teacher Education Programs advisor in Bone Hall for more information on teacher candidacy. Teacher candidates who complete this program of study will be considered highly qualified.
