Secondary Education Dual Major
Candidates seeking a license to teach an academic subject in high schools (grades 7-12 teaching licenses) must dual major in the subject area they wish to teach and Secondary Education. Any combination of major plus licensure is possible as long as that combination has been approved by the state; students must check with their education advisor for state approvals available. Candidates completing a dual major with Secondary Education have few or no elective courses available depending on the program.
Candidates for teacher licensure must work with two advisors: one in the academic program and another in the School of Education and Public Service. Candidates must seek guidance early and often to ensure enrollment in the required courses in a timely manner. Candidates must complete the following education courses in addition to the full requirements of their other academic program (major):
